The Young Perspective on Europe

Europe has to be a “citizen project” in order to succeed. It needs fresh ideas and innovative concepts as well as a strong supportive base from among its younger generations. Outstanding alumni from ten European Foundations get selected into FutureLab Europe. Through their blog, in public debates and through their individual projects they share their young perspective on Europe.

Young Europeans in discussion with Wolfgang Schäuble, German Minister of Finance

“The future is us!” was the title of a workshop in which active young Europeans from the network of foundations that organize the Berlin Foundation Week worked out their questions and issues to discuss with the German Minister of Finance. For FutureLab Europe Estefanía Almenta López, James Kilcourse and Zuzana Novakova took part. Wolfgang Schäuble, a strong supporter of the European idea and the face of austerity policy, was joined by three of the workshop participants on stage on 5 June 2013 at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin.

Cities in social crisis – responses to an aggravated European situation

“They represent the generation that we expect to pay the current debts and to shape the future of Europe” Klaus Wehmeier from the Koerber foundation introduced FutureLab to the audience of around four hundred representatives of foundations at the annual European Foundation Centre conference. The FutureLab Europe panelists brought in their personal perspectives and experience from three very diverse cities muddling through the crisis in distinct ways – London in the UK, Thesaloniki in Greece and Ronda in Southern Spain.

On 5 June 2013 German Minister of Finance Wolfgang Schäuble answered to questions and concerns of young Europeans at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin. Part of the group of ten young Europeans to prepare the discussion were three members of FutureLab Europe.
